Shooting Guru Needed
« on: January 03, 2008, 07:38:00 PM »
Hello Gang:

I learned to shoot from Rick Welch. Basically it's 3 under, thumb joint in the crest of jaw/ear and nose on the string... I love the consistancy of the thumb on the ear/jaw my question revolves around the following.  I can touch my nose (to a left wing feather) with 3 fingers under.   If I try and do the same anchor (thumb in ear/jaw line) I can't touch my nose to the feather for my second anchor.  I have become so accustom to the line of sight with my nose on the feather I can't hit beans if it isn't on there.   I'd love to be able to shoot split finger and still touch my nose on the feather but can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?  What about a high back feather, would that help???  Any insight please feel free to share...
Blessings,
Steve

Just curious why do you want to shoot split finger when 3 under has done well for you?

I don't know, just always want what we don't have I suppose.. No seriously, split finger seems to be #1 quiter, #2 better arrow flight/ smother release....

Call Rick... maybe ask him for suggestions.  I assume there is some "service after the sale".!!?!?!?!?!

The only things I can think of trying are either going with bigger feathers while changing the nock position on your arrows to rotate the feathers up towards your nose or go to a higher anchor point.

If you are shooting three under your first finger is either near or on the corner of your mouth for your nose to touch the string.  I shoot split finter and use middle finger in the corner of my mouth and my nose would touch the feathers if they were 1/4" closer to the end of the shaft. (I don't like them to touch my nose).  You are going to have to change your anchor points for your nose to touch the fletch when you switch from 3 under to split.

If you change anything in your anchor, you can't expect the same sensations. You must try to find the new sensation. Maybe the string touches your nose? it depends of your face shape.
