Wrist sling for a longbow?
« on: January 27, 2008, 07:46:00 AM »
I've been working on relaxing my grip and that's really been helping with my shots pulling to the right from me snatching at the grip on release.

problem is my grip was so relaxed at one point I let go of the bow (yes..it went flying several feet in front of me).  My wife saw me and I said "I meant to do that...trying an experiment"...she just walked away.

I have never seen a wrist sling on a longbow.  Is there such a thing?  How is it attached?

Here's a link to making your own:

I've never tried it with a longbow....I'll let you try it first. Let me know if it works  :)

A thumb sling might work better for you.

Some FITA archers use them. They seem to work well for longbows for some. It is pretty simple, a string/strap/ that loops around the thumb and a finger. If you do a search you might be able to find a pic or another thread on them.

The problem with a finger sling or wrist sling on a longbow is...properly adjusted( ie loose enough) is that there isn;t enough shelf protruding ona longbow for the sling to keep the bow from sliding through the sling and hitting the ground..although I guess thats better than flying through the air and then hitting the ground.Downside is, without complete confidance in the sling retaining the bow....ya end up grabbing at the bow at release...and slo-mo video made believers out of several who swore they didn't grab the bow.

I think Bateman sells a simple lace on bow mounted sling , while the bow mounted slings are not as good IMO as a finger or wrist sling, they do instill confidance in retaining a longbow and may keep you from devoloping a habit of gragging at the bow.

Hello everyone I am new to the site.  If I may I tend to extend my fingers and bend the index just to touch the bow.  This way I do not grab or grip.
