Shooting With One Eye

Does anyone shoot with one eye?

For shorter distances I keep both eyes open and feel like I'm getting better.  However, if I move out to 25 yards the only way I can get the arrow on the bag is if I aim with one eye.  Is this normal?  Should I stick to shorter distances and gradually increase distance?

I thought I was the only one. I am not sure if it "normal" but as long as I shoot better I will keep doin it.

I asked that very question about a year ago, here is the thread.  You might find some useful info in it.  I can shoot as far as I choose with only one eye open.

Most shooting instructors, of any kind, recommend shooting with both eyes open.  This goes for rifles with scopes, pistols, bows, etc.  It compromises your depth perception and overall visual acuity when you look through only one eye.  You might want to check and see if your shooting eye is really your dominant eye.  If you are are left eye dominant and trying to shoot right handed, closing your left eye might be the only way you can shoot well.

I have heard shooting instructors say they close one eye when they really want to be accurate. New combat scopes such as the aim points and ACOG give one greater peripheral vision and are designed to be shot with both eyes open.
Use what works for you best.

Whump Sez: Sometimes when you are first starting to shoot it helps to shut one eye---hopefully the one farthest away from the arrow [Grin]. This will force you to put your eye over the arrow which will help alignment. I have done this many times and I have been shooting for 30 plus years. If it puts the arrow in the bulls eye it is good.  Try this--- raise your bow and point toward the target--as you  are drawing  shut one eye. If the alignment looks good open your other eye, keep looking at the spot and release. It will help your concentration and accuracy.   :eek:     Hunt safe.
