Alignment problem??? UPDATE
« on: May 04, 2008, 12:01:00 PM »
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem to mine or a suggestion.

I shoot a BW, 2 fingers under, and use a Clickety Click clicker. I use the arrow tip as a point of reference while aiming. I am left handed, and consistently hit 2-3 inches to the right.

I have found that if I bend over quite a bit, and cant my bow a lot, that I get rid of the right hits. This seems to put a bit of string torque on my bow fingers.

Seems to me that the nock end of my arrow is just out of alignment with my eye, but I just can't figure out how to correct it.

Thanks for any tips,
Allen

Allen:
Your problem is a common one, that could have several causes.
1. spine too stiff, However being a Widow I doubt that is the one.
2. your coming off the side of your face upon release. Be sure to keep back tension.
3. Your bow arm is moving to the right upon release. Push the bow too the target.
4. is your clicker interfearing with the arrow upon release. You might try removing it and shooting without one.

Thanks Bob, I have been working through it today. I believe it is my bow arm moving upon release. I have my shafts bare tuned perfectly, and the main reason I use the clicker is to maintain good back tension. I found that when I REALLY concentrate on pusing my bow arm through the shot, the right misses go away.

Thank you for the help.

Allen

Another thing that will help with bow arm consistantcy is to close your stance. This decreases the amount of force on the bow arm in regards to lateral movement.

Well Allen, I could be way off, but to me it seems that it could be the way you anchor very high on your face. Just picturing it, I would think that when you lean way over as you are saying, it puts the arrow in a similar alignment as if you were anchoring at your mouth. When you move your anchor up high on your face, I think it would move the nock end of the arrow further over to the left vs. anchoring lower, thus aiming the point of the arrow to the right, and causing right impact.

Hopefully that explanation of my possibly insane reasoning is slightly clearer than mud.

Even though this would likely require you to totally re-learn your aiming, it could be worth exploring. Send me a PM if you want.

Will you be going to Baltimore next weekend? I won't be able to make Dixie this month since they scheduled the  shoot on the same weekend as Baltimore.

Well, for now I think I have it figured out. I've been shooting whith my bow quiver on all season just because I like the balance of my bow with the quiver on. I took it off the other day and my right misses went away. I guess the quiver is causing me to torque the handle on the shot.

Looks like I may be looking for another way to carry my hunting arrows!

Zane, I'm not going to make Baltimore, we are planning of making a whole weekend out of the Augusta shoot at the end of the month. Hope you guys make it to ATAR.

You could try out an arrowmaster from Safari Tuff like I've got. I've been using it the past few weeks turkey huntin and I really like it. My next suggestion would be try a hip quiver.

What date is ATAR? I might have to be doing my behind the wheel driver training at that time. Hopefully I can make it.

Zane, here's a link to ATAR's site. Hope you guys can make it, it's an awesome shoot. I was thinking about your quiver. I'll have to check it out closer next time we shoot together.
