Fingers hurt
« on: November 07, 2008, 01:40:00 AM »
I went to shoot some arrows today after about 8 days of not shooting.  I found that after about 3 shots I could really feel the strain on my fingers when I drawed the bow.  After about 8 shots I was at the point where it was way to almost painful and just plain unenenjoyable.  Anyone know whats going on.  I use a deep hook in the first joint from the end of my finger tips.

Now obviously this probaly wouldn't have happened with a lighter poundage bow but unfortunately  don't have anything else right now.  The bow is a friend of mine's it is a samick hunter which I'm guessing pulls around 60# for me.  I don't mind the pull of the bow or holding it.  It just seems like my finger joints can't take it.

I tried a thicker glove. and i'm going to try an extra wrap of serving on the string.  my alignment seems good with elbow, wrist, and string.     any ideas?  should I just get rid of this bow as soon as possible and go to a 45# bow?  any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

a 45# bow is definitely a lot more pleasant to shoot, however if i were you i'd find a shop that has bows of differect lengths and draw weights and find one that fits you well.  Whats your draw length? what kind of game do you hunt or do you just target shoot?

Are you feeling more of an external pain in your skin, such as would be helped by a thicker glove or serving, or is it more of an internal pain, like an arthritis pain in your finger joints?

If it's more of an external pain, there are several great gloves available, like the Big Shot, that should take care of the problem.

If it's more of an internal pain, is this something that just came on, or have you had problems with joint pain before?

If this is an internal pain that just came on, it may be that you somehow just inflamed your finger joint, and resting it for a week or so and taking some ibuprofin would take care of the problem.  People generally rush it, and try to start using whatever they have strained before the inflamation goes away, which just brings it right back again.

If you have chronic joint pain that doesn't go away, you may need to have it checked by a doctor and get his recommendations.
