target arrow weight
« on: February 06, 2009, 11:32:00 PM »
Hello all,
I'm looking at getting some arrows setup for only target shooting. Is there any risk to my limbs shooting a 300gr. arrow at 40lbs.
Thanks

Most bowyers set an 8 gpp warranty limit. You are only 20 grns from that though.

A lot would depend on the bow.IMHO that 8 gpp and above rule is a lot more critical for higher weight bows and longer draws, where a lot more stress is involved.

It's always easier on limbs to shoot heavier arrows though. The safe answer is to ask the bowyer.

Out of a good quality recurve, probably not.  I'd still check the warranty info though.  Personally, I like around 8-8.5 gr/# for 3D.
