tab thickness/materials
« on: March 03, 2009, 09:14:00 PM »
Just wondering about fellow tab shooters. What materials do you prefer for a tab? I've currently been using a home made tab that's quite thick with a thin piece of suede on the string side. I'm wondering if it's beneficial to use softer materials to get a cleaner, quieter release or do you like thick stuff instead? Any opinions welcome.

I shoot a tab from alaskan bowhunter it is very thin cordovan and last like iron. the longer I shoot it the slicker it getts. I've made several myself and prefer a thin leather, then I can feel the string better.
Bowhunting is a passion, not an obsession. Its just hard for my wife to tell the difference sometimes.

I also shoot a cordovan tab from Alaskan Bowhunter Supply. They are thin, but tough I've shot the same tab for 5 years now & it's in good shape. I shoot a 60lb HH Lb & it's comfortable. Frank

Are you guys shooting the ones with the plate similar to a Cavalier? I've thought about trying one and wondered how they were.

Have a Cavalier.  Like the Bateman much better.  Added a layer of leather under the cordovan.  Put it on with shoe glue.  Has worked for over a year.  Be sure to order a large tab--you can than cut it to your preference.  Tom

I guess I prefer a thinner tab, too. I got a new thicker one a year or so ago and my shots weren't near as good. Seemed point of impact changed, too.
