tuning Question

Hello all,  Well here is my question. At 17-20 yards my bareshaft flys dead center of my fletched arrows. however when i shoot it through paper i have a 1 inch knock right tare. When i shoot the arrows they seem to fly real nice. I am new to traditional and i was wondering if i should ignore the paper and read the arrow.

I've never paper-tuned so I can't offer advice there.
However, I've always tuned well using the planing method. I don't see why you need to use both methods if you bares are hitting where your arrows are.

I would say that right now you are good enough.

However if you want to get very precise,measure your fletched shafts weight and your bareshaft weight,then wrap electrical tape around the fletch area of your bareshafts to exactly match your feather and glue weight.Now bareshaft as before but go even farther, 30-35 yards.

As said all that is probably not necessary just fun to see how precise you can get.

Another thing you can do, similar to RH's suggestion, is to fletch an arrow and then cut the feathers back to maybe 1/16".  It will give you the same flight characteristics as a bare shaft, but will also tell you what spine compensation, if any, needs to be made for the weight of the fletches.  It will also let you test to see if you have any quill contact, which is much more of a problem than feather contact.
