Original Shrew and canting...
« on: April 05, 2009, 11:50:00 AM »
I have recently acquired an original Shrew LB. 54" 56@26, so Im figuring about 62-63# at my 28" draw.
Now first off, Im ok with the weight. Slowly working into it and liking it more and more. No soreness...but I cant shoot it all day, yet.

My issue is canting. I have never had to cant a bow before, but find I have to with this one, simply to keep the arrow on the shelf. I have been thinking about skinny carbons to help with this some.
I hit ok with it canted. Just dont like the fact that the arrow is dependant on canting to stay on the shelf. Then when I switch to my old bow...yep, you guessed it....extreme cant has become "normal" and I have to try not to do it. Is there anything to be worried about here, or am I overworking an already overworked brain?

I have been trying to imagine full draw on a deer/turkey, and having the arrow roll off the shelf...

Any advice/suggestions/ideas out there other than a real skinny arrow?

I've never shot a Shrew but hear nothing but good about them.  With that said, that's a very short bow and often the string pinches your fingers which puts too much pressure on the arrow nock.  The most common reason for the arrow to fall off the shelf in my opinion.  If your other bow is lighter in pull weight you're probably not used to the stronger force on your fingers with the heavier bow.  You might try a finger seperator tab if you have one.

Yea I had the same issue with my short Shrew . The arrows shelf is so small on the Shrew you will need to cant it quite a bit more than you would a bow like the Hummingbird or the Crow Creek that has a wider shelf . I liked my Shrew alot but I did trade it because it forsed me to shoot diffrent that what felt natural to me . Tradaditional shooting is such a personal thing that each person has to find out what works for them . Sometimes they go through alot of bows before they realise that ( Im speaking to myself here  :knothead:    )

I use a deep hook, and will try a tab(if I can find it) even though I prefer a glove. The deep hook seems to stop me from twisting the string and making the arrow roll off the shelf.
This is an older shrew, it doesnt have the grip of the newer ones, or the center cut shelf. I literally have to hold the bow at a 45 degree cant to keep the arrow on the shelf. No arrow I have will stay on the shelf when nocked(as if to hang on a bow holder while in the stand or blind).

If it is finger pinch, Im not noticing it at all. I will try to find the tab though. Thanks.

Britt....sounds very familiar. I love the way the bow shoots, and how it feels. Just dont know if I can get used to such an extreme cant...
