well, shooting my wood arrows in my indoor range tonight and I drew back released knock fell straight down and the arrow tumbled off my riser on to the floor!! The glue didn't set or something??? arrows have been made and shot for weeks???? I was so worried about my bow I checked brace height then unstrung checked it over for obvious damage and then took the limbs off and check everything over again. found nothing wrong, put limbs back on re strung and shot her about 20 more times with no issues, and two of the best groups of my life

checked brace again and it was still the same, no changes.

SO, do I need to look for any long term affects to this bow because of being dry fired? I have never done this before so I don't know what else to do.

I bet you are ok. I think you should wair a motorcycle helmet for at least 3 major 3D shoots that should about do it. yep do that.

will do! if it will stop any major damage from happening to the greatest shooting recurve Ive ever owned ill where a helmet everywhere I go!!!!

sorry to hear that man
but it sounds like you may have gotten away with it and you did the write thing

i would check it un assembled in good light and look for any signs of stress or cracks the tips all lamination's, grip, rest, limb alignment bolt holes etc

shoot if for a while and keep an eye on those spots

hopefuly there was no damage

My feeling is that MOST quality bows are going to have a few dry fires in them before damage occurs. Over the years I have accidentally dry fired Widows, Wes Wallace, Fox and a few others at least a couple times without damage.

well so far everything is good. I just hope it stays that way. I'm going to email my boyer and ask him the same questions I asked here.

On the other side if something does happen to it, I just sold my last wheel bow for 800 bucks, so I guess I would then be shopping for a new custom recurve....just hope I don't have to.

Like Blackhawk I have had a dry fire or two as well. Never a fun experience; but not had a bow blow up either. If you don't have any cracks or delams; or obvious changes in performance you should be fine.

my serving got loose on my pearson and the arrow fell off just before release. no dammage. your prolly fine, but let me know what shoots you'll be wearing that helmet to, i'll make you one out of gar skin so you can keep in the traditional feel of things. :D

gator is right about the gar we shot, they r indestructable, I had the same thing happen to me once and the string broke and whipped me across the face

Caleb,during the life of my 15 years ols Robertson I had 5 or 6 dry fires because nocks and strings,still shooting good

okay, update.

went to the basement and shot 80 more arrows since my last post. I took the limbs off 3 times during all the shooting and kept checking brace after restring and after every 10 arrows. I have looked the bow over and over and in REALLY good light and can find NOTHING wrong. How long do I need to keep worrying about this before I know its a NON issue?

goodness sakes son it is the middle of the night,quit worrying and put your helmet back on and go to bed. Just check it once in a while I am sure it will be fine.

but this will be my first 100% trad only year and its my only hunting bow im 100% confident in. Im going to bed, but I will put another 250 through her tomorrow

As many times you shot it you will have no problems. Most bows can take a few dry-fires. My Wallace mountain has had it share of dry-fires. I had three on the course at Cloverdale one year do to bad nocks. Dry-fires don't really bother me but what is really hard on a bow is when a string breaks:)

What's done is done. You can't undo a "dry fire."

All you can do is look the bow over carefully. You've done that. There's no apparent damage to your bow . . . so shoot it!

If a problem unexpectedly shows up, it's not likely to kill or maim you. It may just scare the hell out of you. After changing your undershorts, you'll just have to buy a new bow. Stop worrying.

Well, just an update on the bow.

Everything is fine I caused some serious heartburn for no reason

I have continued to shoot 150+ arrows a day since the incident with NO PROBLEMS!!

Caleb,

Take the $800 from the sale of your compound bow and buy yourself a backup recurve. I always have at least two on hand. At least I only admit to having two to my wife! :eek:
