« on: February 25, 2010, 09:28:00 AM »
Ok.. Heres my set up,RH Hoyt Gamemaster #55 @ 28" stick on rest, dacron end less string, Easton 2018-160 grain tips.Im getting loud sting slap on the limbs after release.my form is canting a little at draw..but cant seem to understand the  string slap on limbs? Is my canting to sharp or need a tighter hold on the grip? or need a flemish sring to cut down the noise..?

first thing make sure your nocks fit they should be tight enough to not fall off the string but should come off with a tap to the string with bow pointed down. use sand paper to widen them or boiling water works to soften them.
next raise your brace height by twisting the string until the noise goes away

The Game Master is a pretty loud bow.Good performance, but loud. IMHO.
I would use silencers and raise the brace height a bit. Maybe up to 8"
Just my 0,02$

Try some brush buttons . This would reduce string contact with bow limb. Also a flemish twist string would be good as it can be adjusted for noice and performance. Good luck , vikingbear

If it is indeed string slap...Bow Hush was designed just for that.

I agree it may be brace height...check the bowyers recommendation and find the sweet spot.

My 60# Gamemaster is set up with thin rubber gasket material in the limb pockets and under the limb bolts, a 14 strand B50 flemish string, and simple yarn puff silencers. Brace height is 8", and shot off the shelf it is VERY quiet. What is your total arrow wt? I keep mine at least 9gpp.
We are all here because we are not all there.

I would change strings. Go with a low stretch material and get a flemish twist. I have heard many people going to the skinny string and having their Gamemaster quiet down. My guess is that the dacron string that you are using is a fat one and your nocks are tight. I shot with a guy and he had a 12 strand 8125 flemish string and was shooting a real light arrow around 6 gpp and it was not very loud at all.

Both the game master and the Dorado can be made almost as silent as the best longbows.
String slap on the limbs is not going to be as loud as you may think.
The loudest part of my shot from my dorado was the string hitting my old arm guard.
I got rid of that arm guard an now she's a silent killing machine.
This is my own set up,,fast flight flemish string, brace hight 7 3/4,any good string silencer,,I've used heaps of different ones an they all work on a correctly tuned bow,Thread tape on the limb bolts, those bolts have a very course thread an they screw into an alloy riser,a sure recipie for noise,a thin strip of wet suit material or felt over each string grove, felt on the limb bases between the limb an riser.
I also shoot with a short reflex rubber type stabiliser when I hunt with it,but that's only to off set the wheight of the Hoyt 4 arrow quiver,,it helps a little with vibration and noise, but not that much.
The key things are the thread tape on the bolts, the felt between riser an limb base, the felt or rubber on the string grooves, and any old string silencer.
A tip about string silencers,,they only take the vibe's out of the string,,they do nothing else.
Winning or losing is not the important thing,,the important thing is how well you played the game.

Yeppers..Fix the pockets, silence the grooves, silence the string. Are your limbs straight? The reason I ask is I shot a recurve once that had quite a twist in the lower limb. Once shot the string wouldn't quite line up with the grove and then would "snap" back into place. It all happened so fast I couldn't tell what was going on till I saw the wear marks next to the grooves. That snap wasn't all that loud really, but it sounded like a thunder clap to me.

Curious about resolution, too.  I had the similar problem & change to BH, brush buttons seemed to solve it.

Well,,one thing.
I said they could be made almost as silent as the best longbows.

That just shows how much I've shot my longbow in the last two years,,because It's not true.

Sorry about that,I picked up my longbow for the first time in a while last night, been shooting it most of today.

Slight string swish, followed by the arrow hitting the target.

My Dorado is pretty quiet,,,but not like my longbow,,,,ooops ;)
Winning or losing is not the important thing,,the important thing is how well you played the game.
