Help.......Please ???
« on: May 06, 2010, 09:42:00 PM »
I shoot three under, thumb knuckle on my earlobe and touch the cock feather to the end of my nose. I have, and can shoot with both a tab and a glove. I was shooting a tab until a few months ago and had to go to my glove because of my tie-on nocking points scraping my face right below my eye. It became very painful to shoot for very long when it kept cutting my face.

I switched to a glove and the problem went away as long as I didn't shoot with a brass nocking point. Now.......once again the problem is rearing its ugly head. It cuts me bad enough that it looks like I've been cut by a right cross right under my right eye.

What in the heck am I doing that is causing this ??? I don't have any video of me shooting right now, but hopefully I can talk my wife into taking a little bit for me. I am shooting fairly well....considering the abrasion that is on my face. I really don't want to change from three under or from my double anchor points. I didn't do it before and the only thing that I can think of that I am doing is digging into my face to far and in doing so........paying the price.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. I've gotta put a stop to this cutting. I have just gotten another bow and christened her today with my own blood.......I think I'm gonna call it "Cutter"........because it sure as heck did a good job on me.

I was cutting my nose on my brass nocking point a while back. Heck, I had blood spraying onto the limbs of my bow! My problem was that I was trying to over draw my bow trying to increase my draw length. I figured it out with help from this website and I haven't had the problem anymore whatsoever. You might wanna look into that.

In reading your post, I would say that you may have stated the issue. Have you gotten your eye so close to the arrow as to cause the "cutter"?

I usually rip moustache hair out of the right corner of my mouth. _#%$_ hurts. Not sure with out some of that video, but I am sure some of the other more sure footed of our breed will be able to help.

I would take a good hard look at head position. If you draw the bow as many do linearly (straight back to anchor) and you are not touching your face at all then something is going on after you draw. It could be that you are arranging to head into your anchor (don't do it) after your are at full draw. Or it could be that your are torquing the string or bow somehow.

I shoot the same way. I had a similar issue but, I finally figured out it was the glove doing it to my face. A little trim work and good to go

Never heard of this before but are you
plucking the string back during the loose?

Other than that, I'm with BobCo1965.

One problem with 3 under is not using the center finger.  This puts more weight on the bottom finger.  That causes torque.  It can also be caused by a high drawing elbow.  You are drawing at least an inch past the corner of your mouth.  I think that any poor release is going to bite you.  Bill

I am no coach, and am a spotty shooter. I failed Logic in college. But I look at your post and see that;

A) You were cutting your face when using a tab

B) you switched to a glove and it stopped.

C) The problem came back after awhile.

Now, I know that a glove puts the string further from my face than a tab does. So, perhaps switching from a tab to a glove put the razor-edged nockset far enough away that you were not cut.

I think that you probably compensated in the name of hitting, and now you have moved your face closer to your beloved arrow, and the nockset again may have its way with your face.

I would try to do a different type/smaller size upper nockset, or increase (right handed) point weight to compensate. I had a string with a tiny nockset made from dental floss. It was like a small bead, probably soaked with superglue. Another solution might be to serve in a nockpoint that goes all the way up past the index finger.

The reason (logic   :)  ) that I believe it is one of the few things that I mentioned is that the problem seems to be happening after being at full draw. I am assuming that the string is not interfering with the face during the draw and that he is drawing the bow in a linear fashion (straight back to anchor). So, something is either changing in the stance after getting to full draw (most common),or something is happening upon release of the string which is not allowing the string to go straight forward.

I think that you may be turning your head when you aim.  Have you considered going to spit finger and anchoring  with the middle finger around the corner of the mouth? It seems to me that there are more negative variables with the high anchor three under approach.

Have someone watch you while you shoot. Could you be leaning your face in while moving over your arrow. I shoot a D bow and after reading your question, by moving my head in as i drew and leaned my head over the tied nock was on my cheek.
