Release help ???

When using a dynamic release, how do you ensure you have a consistent release?  After I read here that most static releases actually start going forward again, I checked mine and it did, after reaching the corner of my mouth I settle my thumb knuckle behind my jaw and in doing so settle slightly forward.  How would I do this correctly if I learned to continue the pull?

There's nothing wrong with the two points you're using as reference points.  If you keep pulling, you will notice first that your elbow wants to try to go behind you because there's only so far it can go directly away from the bow and second, the result of that will be your thumb knuckle will put less pressure on your jaw but will probably not lose contact completely.

Squeeze your shoulder blades together as you release.  That will help your drawing hand come striaght back.  Bill

The easiest way to overcome a stopped/sinking anchor is to change how you think about reaching anchor. Your sequence is probably something like: pull to anchor, stop (now the creep starts), find anchor, focus (aim), release. Once you stop it becomes very difficult to get things going in the right direction.

Instead, focus on the idea that while you reach your anchor you are only slowing down the pull. Once positive anchor is reached and you are focused on the target you simply continue pulling (building back tension) until the release happens. So, it becomes: pull to anchor, slow down pull, find positive anchor, keep pulling, focus (aim), pull until release, follow through.

Mentally, this all sounds easy but sometimes the body isn't doing what the mind thinks. For training I'd get a video camera, even a digital camera with vid mode, and film your self. You can see what you think is happening and what is really happening. Work on just that aspect until you see positive results at close range. Next, take the camera out while you actually try to hit stuff and repeat the process. See if you maintain the same results, it may take some time.

Another alternative would be to invest in a clicker. As a training tool it will teach you to reach a consistent draw length and how to pull through a shot correctly. Use one until you learn the correct feel of a positive, non-collapsing draw, than work at transferring those results without the use of a clicker.

Bill so many cannot feel this squeezing of the shoulders,it's easier to feel with Olympic under the chin Anchor but is very difficult with the higher Trad Anchor we normally use.

I think what Chris suggests is easier for us to feel, the problem with stopping at Anchor is it's twice as hard to start the pull again and normally results in just as bad release as a forward release, if you imagine it as Chris suggests everything is consistently smooth and controlled.

If an archer draws back away from face then moves hand into anchor, it is almost impossible to maintain back tension.

Tried it the new way with back tension and continuing to pull and I slap my face a lot.  This might be the torque Terry was talking about on a different thread.
