"Addiction" Caused Range Update (New pics added 07/27)
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:37:00 PM »
My new Anneewakee Addiction Bow (see "Addiction Can Be A Good Thing" thread in Pow Wow), "Blackie" inspired me to Spring Clean my home range and change a couple targets around. So I thought I'd throw up a thread with these new pics and perhaps later on add some stills (and/or even a video) of the "fun and games" on this range, under the influence of "The Black Addiction" - LOL

The first pic is looking in "a" Range direction from where I normally stand when on the ground (view is a little different off my tower - in both directions):

I moved the first deer (about 12 yds out now) just a yard or two back and more into the shooting lane (easier to get in line with the hanging carpets back stop). I pulled up a raccoon tgt. from that spot first. I also moved the last 3D foam Deer (in the view) more into the center of the shooting lane. There is a painted deer siollouette on the rug backdrop, behind that. It is at aprox 40 yds from my normal standing place.

The second pic is the "b" Range (seen by turning around and facing back from the same shooting point). The first tgt (fox) is about 10 yds, and the large foam tgt. with the painted deer sillouette is about 30 yds out. All distances on both ranges may be varied/changed by moving either forward or back in the lane(s), of course. About the only change on this side is I placed the raccoon tgt. (that I took up from Range "a") near the stump. No, I don't shoot at the pile of cement blocks     :D    .

I will post this now and answer my wife's call to supper (while I still am able -     ;)    ) and then check it out later.

Man is that your back yard?

I wish I could have that, my HOA has made it necessary to make sure there is no archery being shot anywhere around here but the security has sence left me alone since I now have complied & taken all my targets up but still shoot from my driveway into my basement, "they figure that since I'm less than 20 feet from my house that unless I'm pointing down my drive way I'm safe"

I've got one in my Carport too (the other half of the foam that i painted the pig on for Range b) - just in case - LOL. Yeah, it is our back yard, just outside the dog yard (seen in pic below), just beyond the picnic table, running parallel. Our place isn't big but it is an acre, and so far they haven't "developed" behind us - yet. Though they have done a cut-down a couple times - just to worry us - LOL

Thanks, Steve. It takes time. None of my targets were bought new (couldn't afford that), except bags - and they were on sale). Got them at yards sales and auctions over the years. I used to make some (bags, etc) but those have been replaced as time and luck went on. Oh, I take that back - the big Green Foam ones (one with the painted on deer silouette and the half one with the pig painted on (and the other half in the car port), I bought at ATAR from the guys in Ga. that bring them up most years - but their prices are so reasonable it is unreal. I think it was 50 for the first (about 7 years back) and 70 for the second, about 5 years later. Just work at it as you can and it will mean all the more to you as you progress - IMO.

Beautiful bow and great looking range.  I have been thinking of cutting small game figures out of some of the foam targets that don't cost much, but looking at yours I don't know if I could make mine pretty enough!

LOL - I'm not at all convinced pretty should be your main criteria on tgts/range, C. B. - think "functional" first - pretty can come later. Trust me, they (the ones that ain't so purty) get prettier as you enjoy shooting at them more and more. Just like all the girls in the bars at 2AM   ;)

Thank you for the kind words. That beautiful little Anneewakee Addiction is getting ready to take me to Hickory, NC tomorrow AM for the NC Trad Archery Championships - not that I'm a contender (though she could be)- just an enjoyer.

Yep, bbb, You can never have too many targets (bows, or knives - or arrows too LOL)

steve, that sounds like a "no loosers" deal to me!

Thanks, John.

Think I'll pass on that, Kevin. I did hit one with a cane arrow (that I'd made) one day - and the durn block looked like it had been hit with a 22 round. Not something I'd want to do on a regular basis though - LOL.

Well, Last night I was doing some shooting and picture taking for another thread and decided it was a good time to (finally) get back to my promise on this thread.

I did some refletching of my carbon 3D arrows (and posted some in a thread about "onestringer"'s wraps), with custom patriotic wraps and one white, two fl yellow feathers (you may have seen them in that thread). Now I have finally done a half dozen more up for my hunting arrows for this year. For those I used the same carbons (CX 90 Heritages) but I fletched those with 3 natural wild turkey fethers (from the ones Charles, "stringstretcher", cut and ground for me). I do put a small band of reflective tape on my hunting arrows that you can see close to the logo), for visibility in the deer/critter, or the woodlands. Last night I took a picture of them, For Charles thread on Feather Grinding, and they follow here also.

Here are three of the hunting arrows, laying on my Anneewakee Addiction bow, "Blackie", (from John Dill's Anneewakee Archery and Kinati Quivers),  as I headed out back to shoot some. The sweet little bow and my arrows are on the cement block walk (through the dog yard - to avoid "land mines" - LOL). Love those ground/cut feathers, Charles - great job, and they fly fine out of my "Addiction" bow.

I decided since I was going to check the hunting arrows out against my recently fletched 3D/practice arrows (same size field tips, instead of broadheads, for now) that I would take some pics of that also to see/show how they fly. The ones with the wraps and colored flertchings are just a few grains heavier - not enough to matter, IMO.

Dead turkey with either arrow (A softer spot in the tgt where the hunter arrow hit accounts for the extra penetration - LOL. Gotta love this Addiction (the bow, and the fun sport):

REAL dead deer from any/all 4 arrows (3 10s and an 8, that'll work) - LOL :

I prefer the shot with the hunter arrow on this Ram, if I got my druthers - but I'll take the other'un too (if I have to):

Longer shot (21 yds) on this deer outline, on the big foam tgt - (I was out of hunter fletched ones but I shot some of each at it in successive rounds and they did equally well - as I expected them to. I'll put the broad heads on those soon now.) That one may be a little low for comfort, perhaps - maybe not though, if the deer drops down:

After a few more rounds an, "Oooops," - time to quit. This lucky turkey just got himself some new feathers and is going to fly away with them tucked under his wing. Durn, I really liked them arrows and feathers too. "Come back here with my arrow, you dirty bric-a-brac!":

Thanks again, for looking at my shooting of my back yard home range targets, with my Anneewakee Addiction bow and self fletched carbon arrows. Now if I could just do as well as that, even, other places - like shoots - or hunts - LOL. I love the practice though, don't you?

Is that human target or a sasquatch target made out of a stump on the B Range?  I saw that and it made me think of a baby Sasquatch raiding the chicken coop.

LOL - That is my old Hawk/knife target (shhhh,  we can't talk about that kind of practice anymore but used to befor I knew better    :D    ) I felt-tipped a specific, late "Desert Chieften" on the piece of pine log/stump, a few years back, for a target. Thanks for looking (and noticing more), though. AND I better not catch him in my chicken coop. Oh ... wait, I don't have a chicken coop here -     :archer:
