Varmint Shoot?

As many 3D shoots as I've been to, you would think I'd know what a varmint shoot is. I know it's a prelude to the main shoot but that all I know. I am imagining a bunch of stuffed critters scattered here and yonder to poke holes in. What it is?

I would imagine it's a 3-D shoot with varmint type targets.....wolves, coyotes, badgers, groundhogs, wolverines, foxes, etc.
