Anchor-Index or Middle finger???
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:16:00 PM »
Curious what people think is best and why?  I have always used index, but seem to shoot a little high compared to the middle.  What do you guys think?

I've always put middle in the corner of my mouth. I do well on targets but tend to shoot high out of a tree stand.  Tried shooting 3-under but just dosent feel right.  Will try middle finger on cheek bone and see if that helps.  Guess your going to have to experiment to find out.

I use my index on my canine.  Middle finger feels way too high for me.

As long as it's the same each time, I don't think it matters.

I use 2 anchor points on my face.

Index finger against my eye tooth.
Back of thumb against the jaw bone.

So far it has worked for me but there are so many different styles & points to use that to me my question would be.

If it works then is it wrong?
Zona Custom Recurve: 60" 49# @ 27.5".
Sky Sky Hawk Recurve: 60" 47# @ 27.5".
Genesis 27:3 Now therefore, please take thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt game for me.

For hunting I do a very similar style. However my thumb slides under the jaw bone. The web of the hand forms a "pocket" around the back of the jaw bone. These I consider secondary anchors however, main anchor is my back.

I like a lower anchor like this because it allows better alignment for me.

I anchor with my index finger on the point of my cheek bone and my thumb knuckle on my ear lobe. A higher anchor helps me keep my elbow down.

I don't think it matters where you anchor as long as it is consistent. If you are thinking about your anchor and your grip your shooting will suffer. Your only focus should be on the spot you want to hit everything else should be second nature. Find a comfortable anchor and stick with it. If your shooting high or low your mind will correct it.  Just my opinion but I'm told I'm wrong a lot.
