2 Point Anchor Thanks Terry !!!
« on: October 18, 2010, 10:39:00 PM »
Not sure which post I found the suggestion / reminder for a 2 point anchor from Terry, but I did and started using it the next day. That was a few weeks ago, what a tremendous improvement in my shooting consistency. I am still hitting the corner of my mouth (tip of upper tooth) and then pulling that back thumb joint to the back of my jaw bone and tight to my face.

I also found that it cleaned up my release and has me using my back far more than I was before.

I have been shooting a long time and had gotten very sloppy in my form in general and was flinging arrows, and not shooting arrows.

It is interesting how the one little reminder about a good consistent 2 point anchor helped so much.

Any way thanks Terry !!!!

For what its worth, many here frequently referenced the "Master's of the Barebow" DVD series, with Vol III seeming to be the most helpful as a 'coaching' device. Therefore you might be aware that Larry Yien uses the term "double anchor" also. However, he explains it differently.

The first anchor is the drawing hand to face anchor, and the second is the locking into the back muscles anchor. But, Larry explains that locking into the back muscles 'anchor' does not move the draw hand anchor at the face, because locking into the back muscles is not done by a continuing rearward motion of the drawing arm, but by a 'rotation' of the elbow clockwise (RH shooter) toward the spine and locking into those muscles. So, full draw is attained when the anchor point is reached on the face with the proper arrow tip to elbow alignment, and there is no further 'rearward' arm movement.

He further explains that there should be little to no tension in the drawing arm/shoulder, other than what is needed to maintain the "hook" on the string. In other words, the arm &  shoulder become a relaxed link between the set 'hook' and the back muscles.

It's another case of use whatever continues to work best for you. There is no 'right' or 'wrong'. IMHO, Consistency is what it's all about. Larry's method has certainly done well by him as the 3 time IFAA champion.    :deadhorse:

Yep....when the second anchor is applied in my case, the elbow is making the curved part of the lazy letter 'J'......The elbow starts to 'come around'.

Saying the same thing in a different way is good as someone might 'get it' one way and not the other.  The idea is to get the light bulb to go off.....and there is a LOT of info here on this forum about double anchors, proper alignment, and back tension if one really wants to research it.

This was an important concept for me to understand.  Simply using two anchor points on my face did not ensure that I always came to full draw, or that my draw length was always the same.  For example, if I get tired, my head tends to droop, and I reach my anchor points on my face without coming to full draw, or drawing my full draw length.  If I maintain an awareness of my back tension as I am drawing the bow, it helps my consistency, because I can't really come to full draw with my head drooping, so it reminds me to hold my head up.
