I know I need work on My form, but!!!
« on: December 23, 2010, 03:24:00 PM »
OK, I know I need more form work because I get some flyers when shooting My bow.

Most of My shots are like darts, but after a few they start to fly tail right. I am a right handed string puller so. If the tail is flying to the right as it heads to target what does that mean?

Am I right in thinking it means weak spine. I am going to take a brake from shooting till Monday.

If most of your shooting is good ("are like darts") it's not your arrow spine.  As you suspect, it is something YOU are doing, look to your form.  Taking a short break never hurts.  When you start again, really look at what you are doing and try to determine what changes as the "tail right" shows up again.

Have you marked the arrows that are 'flyers' to make sure they are not the same ones they go errant on you?

If not...then it is a breakdown in your form...OR, you are borderline on spine and a slight deviation in your form is causing it.

I pull a different arrow every day I go out a practice My First shot of the day. It has been flying like darts. I then start to work on form and that too starts off like darts then after a dozen shots or so I start getting the to hit the spot, but start to fly tail right.

My Bow is a PSE KingFisher 60" 50#@28" cut -3/16 Past center / I draw it 27" / Arrows are ASH 30"BOP w/160grn points 4X4" & 4X5.5" left helical.

I've been watching MBB3 so I'll be back doing form work on Monday... Been doing more shooting to keep My mind from going down the Depression road again, So that might be it too.

When I have this issue most of time it is my release, you may not have the same problem but it is something you could look at.

Terry I can do video, but I don't have the right stuff to turn it in to a file to upload for others to see. I have been using a tab for the past year, but might go back to my glove and see if that helps first.. I think I'm torquing the bow or the string.

Are you getting a heavy callus on your ring finger?  If you are, your drawing elbow may be creeping up as you shoot.  This causes you to twist the string on the release.  The other thing I can think or is as you warm up, your draw length increases slightly.  These are guesses, hope they help.  Bill

Bill, I am getting a callus on that finger and the bottom of the middle finger so I may be creeping My elbow up some... That might be My problem in the light of day I'll video Myself shooting and see what I get.

Happy to be of service.  I know it drives me crazy when I start missing and I can't tell what I am doing wrong so I have no clue how to correct it.  You cannot correct a problem until you figure out what you are doing wrong.  Bill

Well I had to go out and do some shooting since it was on My mind... I got to where they started to fly little tail right. I then grabbed My video camera and watched Me shoot. Everything looked good, Then I looked at My bow and saw that there where pieces of My fletching on the arrow pass.

I trimmed it down for better clearance and I got even better flight.. I'm taking a few hour brake to rest up then go back out and see how a cold shot flies.
