Spot shooting Indoors

Decided to shoot my Trad gear in the local Archery Clubs Indoor League. WOW. I cannot believe how poorly I shoot once we start keeping score. What is it about indoors and paper targets?? Any suggestions.

Don't focus on the environment.  Focus on a 1/2" spot in the center of the target.

What it is, is just that it is different. Keep going. If you have to, make a joke about the trouble you are having. But keep going. It will get better.

And it is important that it does. Because the winter indoor season can really help you with your form, and that will pay off come spring, summer, and best of all- hunting season. Hang in there. - lbg

All kinds of things, lighting indoors, standing on a line with others as you have lot more distractions going on, as Longbowguy says keep going as it all helps make you stronger and more confident in the long run.

biggest tip, if you intend to shoot some indoor tourneys make sure you set up your practice exactly the same, for example just practicing with one target face then having to shoot tourney with two faces can mess with your confidence.

Thanks Guys . I have some things I plan to try. I feel I am trying to hard to aim instead of just shooting like I do at my 3D targets.

For me, it's absolutely the most difficult shooting - altogether different animal. Indoor lighting, facing a wall full of spots, guys drawing and shooting in your peripheral vision, all with the constant hum of conversation/BS going on behind you. Makes me shoot like crap. Definately good practice though. If you can learn to tune all that distraction out and get in the zone, it can't help but make you a better archer.

For me it is allot harder to keep the same level of consentration shooting 30 arrows at spots indoors as it is to shoot a 30 target 3D course. I TRY to shoot each arrow as if it is the only one I'm going to shoot. Unfortunately somewhere around the 20th arrow I seem to lose it for a few shots and then I'll get back on track. Those few bad shots kill my score though. Also, you got to realize that a ten indoors is allot smaller the the ten ring on a 3D deer at 20 yds.

Shooting the Vegas multi color is the hardest for me... concentrating on a yellow color is tough.  I do much better on the NFAA Blueface,  of couse the blue face 5 ring is as big as the 9-10 ring on the multi color... LOL  THis is my 2nd year shooting an indoor league, didn't think I'd like it as much,  but it is making me a better archer.  Still not as much fun as 3D.
