Anyone shoot two under only?
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:46:00 PM »
I have been a two finger split shooter forever. I shot a few volleys tonight via floodlight shooting two under (index and middle fingers only) and my groups tighteed up drastically. I am sooo uncomfortable shooting three under (or three fingers split) and since I am used to two finger shooting the two under may be worth investigating further.

Does anyone else happen to shoot that way?

If so, your opinions on how it may have helped you?

Thanks.

Bud

Yes Bud, i have been shooting trad for a year now , and started off 3 under and was very inconsistent , I would have fliers every couple shots.  So i started shooting 2 under and my groups tightened up big time, that 3rd finger got in the way on the release. Don't have that problem any more.  Think there was a post on here awhile back, there are  a few people that shoot this way

I also shoot 2 fingers under.I started out doing it, because of the string pinch, on my kodiak mags.now I shoot 2 under on all my bows now.I think about 4 years now.

If you feel any pain in the fingers at all, I would suggest that you stop shooting that way right away. Depending on a number of things it could cause problems in the tendons.

It could also cause string torque easier as well.

2 Under? Huh.

I've been shooting three under and am having trouble with consistency, and am having fliers every couple of shots.

I will definitely try that out. Thanks!

I've shot few more rounds this morning and the groups are definitely tighter. Three under and I go wide right (lefty shooter). Two under and I'm getting 4 inch groups at 10 yards. Several arrow slaps too with grouping. The arrow is closer to my line of sight.

I had several shots go right to the spot of aim, which for me has been absent in my shooting but only on occasion. Two under seems more consistent with more spot-on hits.

I started split, and found that the best form for me was basically putting little tension on the index above the arrow.  So basically, it seemed to be 2 under for all intensive purposes as any pressure from the finger above caused poor arrow flight.  When I realized all this I just went to 3 under as it is WAY more comfortable and painless.

I have always shot three under until about two months ago. I was getting a real bad flyer now and then to the left. Since I have switched to wo under that flyer has disappeared. I took one of my tabs and cut the ring finger tab off of it....worked like a charm.

I shoot two finger split.  Dropping the third finger got rid of those annoying flyers.  I was torquing the string with the third finger.  I keep 80% of the pressure on my middle finger under the nock and 20% on my top finger.

I'm shooting a 58" Bear Super Grizzly #50 @ 28 but draw around 29.

Still working on the changeover. So far I'm liking what I am seeing.

I shot 2 finger split for a year or two, then switched to 2 under. I shot this way very well, but by middle finger started aching. I switched to 3 under simply due to the fact that I didn't want to permanently damage my fingers.

Bud B. I know what you mean about hitting way right shooting 3 under. I'm a lefty and  have battled the same thing. I found that simply trying different gloves/tabs you will find that some will cause your shots to impact differently right/left.

I have finally found a glove that allows me to shoot 3 under without hitting right.....it did take some experimenting though!

I used to shoot 2 under for a year or so with great results. I also had the same problem that A.S did. I went back to 3 under after that.

A.S. what glove did you finally settle on?
I went to bed a couple of nights ago and started thinking about different draw and release styles...I went out and turned on the porch lights at 11 pm and shot(in my underwear)until 1:30am.(Oh yeah, I live WAY out in the country)

Raghorns, I'm using a Superglove by Alaska Bowhunting Suply. I also found that the 3Rivers Duraglove works well for me, I just prefer the cordovan tips on the Superglove.

I used a Big Shot glove for a while and it caused me to shoot right, and I constantly hit the tip of my nose with the bowstring. It almost drove me crazy until I figured it out!

Allen,
Thanks for the info. I will give one of those gloves a try...I hit my nose at times too...I just thought I have a big nose.

Thanks again,

Until recently, I shot 3 under, but I've been experimenting with 2 under and still trying to figure out which I prefer.

I notice, just like some of you have, that I seem to torque the string with the third (ring) finger.

Just like you Bud, I'm a lefty shooter and have an occasional flier to the right.

I think I'll keep tinkerin' with 2 under...

Even though I set up as 3 under it is essentially 2 under because I don't use the ring finger. It just kind of touches the string.
