ANCHOR TIME AND OFF RIGHT

I'm trying just about everything to find whst is right for me as far as style goes. However, some things just have to be dealt with. I'm shhoting 3 under right now and I love it. I'm doing my best to follow the form clock and it's certainly helped. BUT, if I slowly, steadily draw and release when I hit anchor, my arrow flies true and accurately. When I pause at anchor, it seems the longer I hold the further right I shoot. The arrow is still flying well, just right. This is gonna hurt me in the woods when the time comes. I'm not always gonna be able to draw slow and take my time. I need to be able to draw and hold. I'm definately not overbowed. How long do you hold and why? should I be shooting for a certain hold time? Need help correcting this.

I kind of set-up a rhythm.  Draw slow release slow, draw fast release fast.  I find if I deliberately pause beyond a second at anchor I start to aim - or at least make "corrections".  That invariably makes me shoot high at 20 to 30 yards and/or to the right.  Not sure why that is, but if my brain says "long" my arm says "oh, then I'll just come up a bit" and things go astray.  

If I focus on a spot, draw, anchor, release with a clear mind I generally seem to shoot better.

Pretty common even in compound, if you let your mind wonder from the process you generally miss..

Cat,  Sounds like a classic collapse is happening when you hold.  When you shoot right away, you are pulling through the shot and not stopping at anchor.  When you do stop at anchor, it sounds as though you are letting the string hand start to move forward.  That loss of back tension is a killer and will make your string hand flip out away from your face and your bow hand to move to the right (if you are a right handed shooter), causing a right miss.  When you stop and hold at anchor, you really must continue to increase back tension.  It takes practice.  Have someone watch you or video yourself and I bet you will see the arrow point move forward while you are holding.

Just for grins... try this..

Draw, anchor, close your eyes and count to ten... open your eyes and see where your arrow is pointing... I'll bet it's to the right..

If it is.... rotate you whole body around to the left until when you repeat the exercise your arrow stays on the target..

Another question.  High errors can be moving the drawing hand backwards after release and right errors can be plucking the string.  You're not doing the "Hollywood Release" and making a theatrical flourish with your draw hand at or an instant after the release are you?  If you're going to do the continuation release it has to me smooth and not "oh, I wanted to do that so I'll add it now" that I see many shooters doing.  There's a "fun" video on the Pow Wow forum currently showing that.

I agree with Stumpkiller.....sounds like plucking the string.  Once you're at anchor and your back tension is right.....just relax your hand.

Stump, i'm trying to follow thru with my bow arm the best I can. That has been one one weekness thru the years of shooting my wheel bow and I'm sure that hsnt chngd. I'm following thru there. it's got to be something from the shoulders up.... release, brain, head position. last thing. I hear about the "plucking the string" I don't really get that. Hey, Moebow. I feel like i'm picking up my head BUT now that I think about it I feel that way cuz i'm not feeling my fingers on my face? I guess I could be pulling my release hand away instead of raising my head off the bow.

Connon - "pulling my release hand away" - this is what's referred to as plucking....if your hand is moving out away from your face at release it will cause your arrows to hit to the right....pretty dramatically....lol.
