bow jumping question
« on: July 19, 2011, 10:34:00 PM »
For those who were kind enough to offer help with the back tension release, it's going well.  As I've adjusted my form in various ways I've become aware of more minor details in my shot.  One of which is that my bow seems to be jumping some in my hand and I'm curious if it's a problem or not.  I'm right handed and I cant my bow I would guess about 35 degrees or so.  I have a medium/medium low grip but it feels like it fits nicely in the upper web of my hand with only slight pressure on the bottom of my palm.  When I shoot the bottom limb tends to jump a bit left and the top limb correspondingly jumps a little right.  I Don't squeeze my grip hard but I do hold the grip lightly and don't use a wrist sling or have an open palm.  My anchor is consistent and my alignment is good.  Is this a result of the cant or is there an issue with my form?  Let me know if you need more info on my shot.

Zane,  Difficult to say without seeing.  One guess would be that your string fingers are putting your string out of alignment with the bow's orientation.  Your "hook" should be in the same line as the bow and in fact, the string hand should really dictate the bow's direction and cant.  35* is a fairly significant cant angle and you may be inadvertently applying pressure in the clockwise direction with your bow hand.

Could be a few things. These are what come to mind:

1. Torquing in the bow grip. Gripping problem.
2. Improper handle shape to your hand shape.
3. String torque. Improper hook or inconsistant hook.
4. Limb twist. Equipment problem.

I'm going to head back out to shoot here in a bit and will update but I picked up my bow and drew a few times again last night.  I think the can't is less than 35 and more like 20-25, but I do think my face and hand position is not at the same angle.  I'll try shooting straight up tonight and we'll see I'd there is a noticeable difference.

Update:  shot more vertical last night and did notice a difference in the bow jumping more forward with less shock.  I'm going hunting this weekend so I'm not wanting to tinker too much but when I get back I'm going to have to figure out how to get my head/draw hand equivalant to my bow cant.  Thanks for the feedback.
