Clicker help
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:03:00 PM »
I have a couple of questions re clickers and target panic

I'm gonna give a clicker a try. Here's why.

When I draw my bow and release the arrow I usually end up with the arrow striking the target a few inches high. When I try to lower my bow arm to lower the impact point I quite often collapse, resulting in a very low very left arrow or I release before I am on target resulting in the high arrow.

Some things I think I am doing right.
1) I am getting to full "rotational" draw. My string hand comes straight back at release.
2) I am using a deep hook on my string hand and my release is fine.
3) My equipment is well tuned and I get excellent arrow flight.
4) I have a loose grip on the bow, I'm not choking it.
5) I am going to give Jay Kidwell's recommendations a go.

So the questions are
1) Will a clicker help?
2) If so, what is the correct way to use one?

Thanks in advance

JW

Hi JW yes a clicker will work but it needs not to be taken lightly! Its a commitment not something that happends over night. It took me 2 years of consistenly shooting with one before I got the hang of it. Now its just as natural as drawing or anchoring. It sounds like you are doing good besides the premature release. If that form works for you and you feel comfortable with it stay with it, if you feel something needs to be changed id do it now and then work on the clicker.

How I use one is to draw the bow, anchor and then I barely have to pull backwards to make the clicker click which triggers my release. Try not to anticipate the click just worry about pulling THROUGH the click not just to it and have your hand touch your shoulder durning follow through. Remember your making a controlled shot so dont explode upon release. Easier said then done!
