Draw length reference & ?'s
« on: November 19, 2007, 10:28:00 PM »
When trying to determine draw length. Where is the reference point typically located on the riser?

I know how long my arrows need to be. But I'm trying to approxamate my draw weight.

I'm using a Bear Kodiak Hunter 45Lb@28" I draw between 28.5 and 29" from string to the front of the riser. I figure I'm not quite to 50lbs, but prolly over 45.

To end my questions. What would a good aluminum arrow size be? I'm coming up with 2016 or 2018 cut in the 30" range with 145gr heads. They shoot decent too but I need to buy a dozen or so and want a second opinion.

Thanks a BUNCH!

Most people use the front of the riser. Technically, I think it is supposed to be 1 3/4 inches forward of the deepest part of the grip, but the front of the riser will be close enough.

Normally you can figure about 3 pounds per inch, so you'd be around 48 @ 29. My 45 pound Black Bear shoots great with 2016's and 125 gr. heads at my 28" draw. You may want to go with 2018's if you are planning on using 145 gr heads. Your Bear bow is cut to center, so it will be pretty forgiving of spine. That being the case, you may want to err on the stiff side.
