Form video....my release is creeping...any help?
« on: September 21, 2011, 05:14:00 PM »
Hi,

today i made some videos of myself for a form check.
I filmed from the front from the top and from behind and the biggest mistake that i noticed is i seem to creep forward before release, wich really surprised me  because i thought i had that back tension thing as it should be.

See for youreself:
(big file, 6 arrows front, back and side in slowmo)

How can i get this creeping out of my system?

I normally draw a little behind my anchor, then settle in forward into my anchor and then i tought i start pulling through my release again, but videos dont lie    :knothead:

Any help apreciated!

Thanks,
Axel

This is your problem!!!  When you draw, you MUST NEVER allow the string side to move forward -- EVER!!! Draw as far as your anchor and an inch or so low of it then move your string hand STRAIGHT up to your anchor references -- NEVER FORWARD!!!

That string elbow can never move forward at any time or you will loose your back tension.  Once lost, it CANNOT be regained as you have discovered.  Regardless of what you think you feel it will not be there.

Your style for drawing is what is doing it to you.  You can't pull back past your anchor and move forward to get it.

There that's said several times but can't be over emphasized.

From my "non-coach" eye Axel it looks like once you reach your rear most draw point your elbow never really stops moving forward.  Even when you anchor it's still moving....ever so slightly.  I second what Arne said....draw slower and only to a point below your anchor and then come up into your anchor point.  I'll let the experts walk you through applying true back tension.  If you haven't watched Moebow's youtube videos on Release Tips and Rotational Draw it will be well worth 10 minutes of your time.

Moebow is right, and I know this from experience!  You may need to change your anchor, but you cannot pull past it and then forward into it.  You loose back tension every time, and it is very hard to regain it during the shot once this happens.  I had to change my anchor slightly to stop this from happening to me.

Try using the back of a shield feather as a secondary anchor point, see how this works?
