Just a thought and a system I use whether shooting targets, 3D's and of course critters.

Remembering to pic a spot at anchor during an elevated stress level situation has frequnetly been omitted.

Pic the spot and remained focused prior to and completely thru the shot execution routine. May also incorporate after the bow hand and string hand set. Make picking a spot a check point early on, may pay big dividends in the future.

Stump shooting (teaches you to work through cover and shoot odd yardages) and, I highly, highly recommend, these U-Stuff It bag style targets from Trendsetters.

MUCH cheaper than a foam 3-D and actually outlast them.  I hang mine out in the woodlot beside the house and "stalk" from different angles.  Leave some cover around it to practice threading an arrow through a window.

I even move one indoors for the cold winter months.

RC

I like your tip about thinking "right there" to make sure you are focused on a spot before the shot.  Nice!  Have to give that a try.

Great thread and I too like the "right there" idea.

RC's comment of 'right here' is on the mark for how many shoot, me included. The 'right here', one,two... shoot, techniques though are actually intended for achieving bow arm stabilzation and ensuring the correct back muscles are being utilized vs. holding to pick a spot.

Picking the spot precedes the hold or one may find them shooting at the queue but not focused on the intended spot. Not to be surprised that the mark is exactly where you were physically pointed.
