First Long Bow question

Just got my first longbow,and fairly new to archery in general. The problem I am having is the arrow is slapping my top grip finger pretty hard. Tried a glove, but it opened the seem in the glove after a bit. Do I need to reconfigure the grip on the bow or is it just bad form or what? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Ron

Do you have an arrow shelf on your longbow, or are you shooting off your fingers?

There is an arrow shelf, but I do have a fairly large hand and noticed that my top finger is pushing up to about the level of the arrow shelf.

I suspect the quill is the problem.  You might try rotating the nock a little to see if you can move the quill out of the way.  I don't think the feathers alone would cause enough damage to open the seam of your glove.

What poundage is your bow and the spine of your arrow. Overspine can also cause that problem.

I have a 55# 64" longbow and I have Carbon Express Terminator 6075 shafts cut 30" over 100 gr. inserts. Tips are 170Gr. and total weight of the arrow averages around 620 Gr. I have 5" LW feathers. I didn't really plan any of this out. So it may not even be in the ball park.

I really don't know much about carbon but am assuming they are spined for 60-75#'s spine. That seems heavy to me what kind of bow is it and where is it cut to in relation to center. Would some one with more knowledge of carbons jump in and help.

Assuming that you draw 28" give or take, those arrows should be too stiff.  I don't shoot the terminators anymore, but shooting 55-60lb longbows at 29" draws with 100gr. inserts and 200gr. points I need 340 spine arrows cut to 31.5".  So I agree that the arrow is too stiff and not flexing enough to clear the riser section.  You may want to also raise your nock point and double check your brace height.  Start a new thread on PowWow with your bow specs and shooting style asking for advice on carbon arrows and you'll get alot of responses from some really experienced guys that will save you a ton of time and money.  Good luck.
