"string picture" anyone?

I've read more than a couple books on traditional shooting. But I only came across the term "string picture" in one. It was "Hit The Mark" by Paul Comstock.

I believe he said that many old time target archers used the bow string in some form or another in their aiming process.

I really don't look for the string in my sight picture but I've noticed that sometimes I'm aware of it and sometimes I'm not. I've also noticed that when I have a really good shot, sometimes I can see the bow string off to the right of my arrow. I don't notice this on every good shot, but I have noticed it on some. I've chalked it up to the fact that I am shooting a wide handled self bow and probably getting good back tension when it does happen.

Has anyone else heard of this term? And does anyone use or notice the string in their sight picture?

About a month ago, in a coaching session with Javi, he had me start shooting with my right eye "across the string" by tilting my head into the string at full draw so that my nose contacted the string.  I now see the string as a slight blur as I focus on my spot with the string to the inside.
