Twisting string when drawing?
« on: August 25, 2012, 08:52:00 PM »
I am having a problem with the fletched end of arrows tailing to the right upon release. I wonder if I am twisting the string;however, I have been trying to grip the string very carefully to avoid doing that and paying attention to a smooth release.

I recently put a new dacron string on my Hill Wesley Special - 68" bow, 65# @ 28", and I draw a hair over 27 ". Brace ht is 6.5 "

All my arrows are 29" long, but here is the weird part. I shot 55-60 spine (with 125 gr. point), 65-70, 70-75 spine(both with 145 pr points), and they all shot to point of aim and grouped well. They are all wood arrows. Nocks are not tight on the string.  Since it is doing this with whatever arrows I shoot, I am guessing that string twist is the probable cause. What do you think? Is there any special drawing technique to make certain the string does not get twisted when drawn?

Moebow, are you out there?

Sam,  Ya, I'm here   :D

It's really hard to tell just from your description.  Is your string hand and string forearm as relaxed as possible?  Many times we get too much tension in our arms  and hand and that is often a cause of string twist/torque.  If you are relaxed enough, the string will align your hand, if you are too tight in the arm/hand, you will use your hand to align the string(often twisting it).

As always, can you post a video showing your string hand during draw and release?

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

Moebow, I think it was relaxed but I can't say for sure. Maybe I can get the wife to do some video in a day or so. Thanks.
