Shooting dominant eye or decreased draw weight
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:10:00 PM »
For those of you who noted increased accuracy by switching hands to match your dominant eye, are you also shooting less draw weight? Both factors are sometimes credited with an increase in   accuracy. I wonder if we sometimes credit one and don't consider the other.

I see many archers shooting bows of draw weights at or above their maximum capability. This seems to be more common for those of us who once shot compounds. Anyway, most who switch hands start shooting in lower draw weights. Many end up shooting a lighter weight bow. I can't help but wonder if some of the credit is due to lesser draw weight.

I started with a lower weight when I switched to LH but now shoot the same weight as I did when I shot RH.  Actually, after getting the hang of it, I can handle more bow weight comfortably LH than I ever could RH.  That being said, I see no reason to shoot heavier weights and stick to the low to mid 50#'s like many others, regardless of which side I'm shooting from.

Take care,
