Shooting high
« on: October 17, 2012, 10:39:00 PM »
I have a beautiful custom recurve that I always shoot high with. It is the only bow that shoots high for me. I shoot three fingers under and I tried raising the nock point to the point where the nock end is way high and the arrow is still a few inches higher then where I am aiming. I don't want to mention the name, but, it is a very good recurve with a good reputation. Any ideas?

Before changing any of the settings on your bow, nock point, brace height, etc., I would suggest that you try experimenting on changing the way that you grip this particular bow.  What I have found through trial and error is that my grip on the bow changes where my arrows consistently impact on the target.  I primarily shoot a longbow, but occassionally (just for fun) grab an old recurve I have to shoot for a bit.  Because of the way that the risers are configured both bows require a different grip placement and pressure to hit where I am looking.  Don't take this as advice, I'm not qualified to give it, but one thing that I have learned from Moebow is that instead of looking for problems with equipment, the most vital part of the shot is the form that is used to hold, draw and release.

Just my thoughts.

Arkymorg nailed it , lower wrist grip will make you shoot higher if you are used to a higher wrist grip . Also the the shelf on your recurve could be higher than your other bows making the arrow sit higher off of your hand . If you like the bow just keep shooting it and aim a little lower , sooner or later your brain will adjust.

You mean I got something right?!  Wow...I've been married for 27 years and raised two daughters...I couldn't tell you the last time I heard that I was right about anything!  LOL

This is one recurve out of many that I have either owned at one time or shot that belonged to friends that I can't get to shoot where I'm looking. I've shot recurves that took me a dozen arrows to get zeroed in with but this is the first that I've shot that I consistently shoot high. It may actually have something to do with the bows grip, but, I use the same grip for any recurve that I've shot so it does not make sense for me to change what I'm doing to be able to shoot this one bow. Thanks for the suggestion though.
