Anchor point gets soared...
« on: January 10, 2013, 01:22:00 PM »
Hi all,

Maybe I'm not the only one to get this issue and some of you may share you're experience with me.

One of my anchor points is my index finger on the corner of my mouth. I shoot 3 under.

When I release, my mouth corner get's soared. I think this happens when my finger nail rubes the skin and over the time and shots it gets soared.

I used to get beaten in my nose with the string upon release but I got that issue solved. No is this. I even get my lip swollen...

What to do? I already cut my finger nails shorter then usual but it isn't helping...    :banghead:

Thanks
Diogo

I used to have this problem occasionally as well.  What I found out is when it happens it usually means I am doing something wrong in my release or leaning my head into the bow/string.

Next time you are shooting make the conscious effort to bring your string all the way back to your anchor.  Don't try and meet the string with your head.  If that makes sense.  That is something that seemed to help me get rid of the problem.

It makes perfect sense. I was told very often that I was leaning my head to meet the string. I tried to correct that to get my nose at peace. Maybe your right!

Thanks

Diogo,

Another thing to check is your tab length.  When you take your hook on the string, the ends of the tab should be 1/4 to 3/8 inch (about 6 to 10mm) SHORT of the tips of your fingers.

Sometimes when the leather on the tab is too long, it "whips" your face as the string is released.  Might be worth checking.

Arne, that is true. I thought of that but I was not sure how short could it be. When I have my fingers open, the tab is in fact shorter then the fingers but I'm guessing that when I take my hook it's just about the same length of my fingers. Maybe I have to shorten the tab witch should not get me into trouble since I get a deep hook...

Thanks Arne

I also shoot 3 under but use my middle finger in the corner of my mouth. My best 3-point anchor is middle finger in corner of mouth, string touching the tip of my rather large beak and the web of my hand between my thumb and index finger tucked into the corner of my jaw. I have found (slowly at times) that if I short draw instead of truly anchoring, that is when I pop my lip. If I turn my head too much to the right and pluck the string instead of a correct release the string dings the beak. I have also found that all the above works best for me with a 62" longbow. When I do all of the above I shoot fairly well. I just wish I could find the magic potion that would work for me to not deviate.

Diogo, I too shoot 3 under, and had a similar problem when I was anchoring with my index finger. I switched to my middle finger at anchor, and that seems to keep my lip happy. Also, I switched to a glove instead of a tab, so that there is not a leather edge on my lip. If you can tolerate one (a lot of folks don't like gloves), give a glove a try out may help. Good luck, and happy shooting!
