Ive never been in this forum. Mostly in Pow wow. In the last issue of trad. Bow hunter in the artical tips from the oldtimer the author Dennis Kamstra wrote about a way he's been shooting for several years. Ive been trying it and  i think it might work for me. Have any of you read/ or shoot this way?

Lately my grandaughter who is 7yrs. old has been helping me. I have her count to 5 silently when I get to anchor, then she says ok to release. She is 7 and has better form than me. She has been shooting for 4yrs.

I think that's a great idea, Britt. There's no doubt that having a 7 year-old granddaughter who is willing to count for you is the best, and certainly the most fun, way to learn to hold at anchor.  For those of us who may not have a granddaughter handy whenever we want to practice holding, there are some neat metronome apps available for the iPhone.  I use one called Tempo, which offers a choice of various clicking sounds that I can easily hear while holding the iPhone in my pocket.  I practice at home using a five second hold, as you do, which is longer than I really want to hold, but I figure that if I practice under controlled conditions holding for five seconds, then maybe I'll hold for at least two when I'm being distracted by other shooters, etc. I've even considered using it during 3D shoots, but haven't yet reconciled myself to all the ribbing I would be sure to get. I'm sure comparisons would be made to Capt Hook's alligator that swallowed the clock in Peter Pan. Probably a better idea would be to bring a granddaughter along to count for me.

When I first started shooting a recurve at 16, I was definitely a snap shooter.  Mainly because I think I overbowed myself but taught myself to shoot accurately that way.  The last couple of years, I've had serious bouts with target panic and definitely qualify with McDave's #2 item above.  I have recently switched to an elevated rest and 3 under and for whatever reason I am much more relaxed so I'm going to keep heading in that direction.

I don't snap shoot, but I do shoot very fast. if I shoot too fast I short draw or lose my rhythm but if i hold for a while I start plucking the string. for me its a mater of drawing just quick enough to keep my rhythm without jerking or short drawing.

I know a few guys that snap shoot, and they all have killed a lot more game than me.  If it works for you, take it hunting.
