Newbie Needs Form Help!
« on: March 01, 2013, 08:20:00 PM »
Hi All,

So I finally got some new arrows that are much better tuned to my bow. I paper tuned these, and determined the 175 grain field points fly perfectly. Shooting bullet holes thorough the paper!

Now I just need some form help. Any advice is much appreciated. I am kind of trying to emulate the Hill style of shooting, combined with a few things I picked up on the Masters of the Bare Bow DVD's. I admit I am kind of a snap shooter at this point, but the release feels much better for me if I don't hold at anchor too long.

Please let me know what you think:

Thought this might help. I edited the videos and put them in slow motion. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

A couple videos are just too dark to really make anything out. Over all from what I can see, not too bad at all.  The most glaring thing I see is the string hand moving forward as you let the string go.  You seem to be doing that consistently and that is called a collapse.  It robs the arrow of energy, and actually makes your release harder to do.

Try pulling the string hand BACK as you release.  "Pull your fingers THROUGH the string."  Try NOT to think "open my fingers"; Try to think "pull through."

Thanks Arne! I looked back at the videos and definitely can see what you are referring to with my release. I will work on that. I have been concentrating on simply opening my hand in an effort to make the release cleaner. I will try to concentrate more on pulling through.

I will work on getting some better videos with better lighting. Anything in particular I should try to get on video as far as angles or areas to focus on?

If you can, a video of you shooting from the rear and elevated (top-down shot) so we can see your string arm alignment with the arrow.  the front and back shots don't really help a lot,  face on and that rear elevated view would be best.
