Finger question
« on: April 12, 2013, 05:11:00 PM »
I understand the difference shooting split finger vs 3-under and how that effects the tiller of a bow so I am wondering what effect using primarily two fingers (split finger) with the third just barely putting pressure on the string?

Put another way, with split finger should the pressure of the string be equal on all three fingers?  Finding sometimes I am really only using two fingers - effecting my accuracy/poi?

Thanks

Sorry, I posted an answer for 3 under when your question was about split fingers!  Maybe I didn't get enough sleep last night.  Anyway, I guess my last paragraph still applies.

It will definitely affect the flight and impact point of the arrow if you vary the pressure too much from shot to shot, so it would be good to find something that works for you and stick with it.

I've shot both three under and split and have been shooting just split for the past 8 months.  I carry most all of the weight on my middle and ring fingers and my index finger only has light pressure without as much of a hook.  I've had to keep a relatively high nock point (5/8ths), but the bow is much quieter than three under.  Probably not standard shooting etiquette, but works for me.

I shoot three-under with most of the weight on my index and middle finger and very little on the third finger. Nock point is about 1/8" higher than when I used to shoot split, but really don't notice a difference in noise level.
