Form Video For Review (NEW UPDATED VIDEOS)
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:22:00 PM »
Hello guys and gals. I thought i might tap into your brains a minute, and get your thoughts on my shooting. I shoot what i feel like is pretty good, i have taken many, many animals with a stickbow, but i am always looking to get better. I guess its the wrestler in me. So tell me what think, what can i work on? My accuracy is great out to 15, but then it nose dives, i know the problem has to be me. Heres the video, dont hold back i have tough skin. Thank you for your help!

Dalton,

Pretty hard to tell from this angle.  Looks like a lot of arm in your shot (wrestler!).  Really need a wider view and straight on and not at this angle.  A video from behind and high (looking down from the rear) would help too.

Don't know where Ashe County is but Bob Westley lives near Chapel Hill.  He could help you!

Looks good to me, man. Of course, the most important camera angle is the one aimed at the target:)

Do you live near Mike Treadway? I like to keep my hand on my face after the shot keeps me from plucking the string.LCH

Your short drawing, leaning your head into ( toward ) the target, which is shortening your draw and not letting you engage your back muscles. You also plucked the string, string hand is moving to your right, instead of to the rear towards your right shoulder. Your target looks to be lower, in front of you, are bending at the waist or bending your front knee so you remain in good form ?, can't really tell from the video.

Stand straight up and bring the string to you, don't move your head toward the target. Review Terry's form a clock, bow hand at 12:00 and string elbow at 6:00, if you get your string elbow to the 6:00 position your shoulder should be rotated slightly back and you should feel the back muscles pinching, like your trying to pinch a dollar bill between your muscles, more on the right side than the left for a righty. This will move the string hand toward the right shoulder upon release.

P.S. Nice log home, and good luck.

Thanks for all the help fellas. Ive worked on all the things mentioned above and i have to say it has made a world of difference.

When i tried what njloco said to do, standing up straight, bringing the string to me, my groups at 20 drastically improved. I think that may have been the main issue. I feel alot deadlier!

I am going to get a video up tonight, from above and behind and see what you guys think now. Thanks again, this is why Tradgang is so cool!

Here is me shooting last night at the warehouse. My buddy stood on a chair behind me, hope its a better angle.

Sat. I shot, and shot 39pts higher than my best trad score ever, on the same amount of targets (30). Thanks so much for the help! It is definatly helping me!

PS-I had a flyaway release in one of these shots, i felt it, so discard that 2nd or 3rd shot i think. Other than that, rip away fellers!

After throwing near 1,000 arrows last night, the back of my right shoulder was getting pretty sore, Hoping this is a good sign of back tension? Thoughts?

Your alignment at full draw looks pretty good from this angle. What I THINK I see is a VERY small collapse as you release.  Watch your string elbow closely and you can see just the smallest movement to the right in the video.

That is reducing (and/or loosing) your back tension and causing the flip of the string hand.  Try to be a little more deliberate (slow down) and continue to think; "press the string shoulder to the rear," (perpendicular to the arrow line) as you release.

Over all pretty good though!!

Thank you for your help! I definatly think the release is my weakest part of my form. I will post some nore videos after I go shoot tonight, are theee any angles that would show the release clearer?

Yes, just a straight on "face to face" both close up (head and string arm) and from farther away head to foot and bow hand to string elbow.
