anchor point
« on: September 11, 2013, 08:38:00 PM »
Bought a hoyt gamemaster 45 lbs.
What little instinktive shooting ive done is 2 fingers under.
1 over and draw to tthe corner of my eye.. I shoot ok. But catch myself short drawing some when I get tired. Have tried the corner of my mouth too. Shoot ok.  But not nearly as well as the other way. Kust looking to get more consistent. I have a clicker that came with the bow. Thought about putting it back on.
Have noticed I shoot much better either way with both eyes open.
What anchor do most use?

I use and teach index finger tip at the corner of the mouth. I like the alignment of bow arm and draw arm this lower-than-the-eye anchor promotes.

When you get tired it would be best to take a break rather than let your form deteriorate -- I know it is hard to quit because shooting is so fun.

Shooting with both eyes open is ideal if your are matching the dominant eye with the drawing hand: better depth perception, peripheral vision, and for some, better balance.

Now granted I shoot 3 under. I anchor the first knuckle of my thumb under the bottom tip of my jaw.(about the sideburn area) But that dont matter you need to find what works best and is most comfortable for you. Just my opinion.
All the best shooting Nick

I shoot a recurve with an Bear Weather Rest. About 2 months  ago I started shooting cock feather in. I did this because i knew it would give me a second anchor point, hen feather touches the tip of my nose. It is a rock solid second reference point to ensure I reach full draw. It has improved my groups 10 fold. I shoot split finger.
