New Trad shooter
« on: December 23, 2013, 08:40:00 AM »
Hey guys, just joined your forum and im looking for some information on how to start getting involved with trad gear..

i've been a compound shooter for the last fifteen years or so and i like it a lot but ive forever been interested in shooting trad gear, recurve or longbow..

i've asked for an entry level recurve for christmas so maybe that will work out..

do you konw of any good links on bow maintenance, how to keep a recurve, shooting form, or anything else of the sort?  I'm literally starting from the beginning here and have a lot to learn..

any information would be appreciated..

thanks!!

Welcome,

Lots of good info here.  Check out "Terry's Form clock" thread (a sticky here at the top.  there are some form videos there too.

Here is a link to mine:   http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMoebow1

Look for Jimmy Blackmon's videos too.

There is also a "New to Trad" banner at the top of one of these pages by Rob Distefano (sp) but I'm not seeing it at the moment.

Finally, when you are just starting out, see if you can find a coach.  That will REALLY shorten the learning curve for you.

There are many variations on the theme of traditional archery.  People tend to get passionate about one type of bow, or one style of shooting, which is fine: why do something if you're not going to get passionate about it?

But for an overview of all the types and styles, nothing beats the 4 volume set of DVD's, Masters of the Bare Bow, in my opinion.
