recurve and mechanical release
« on: January 18, 2014, 07:52:00 PM »
I recently got back into Instinctive shooting and found that due to past injuries and perhaps some age that my middle finger knuckle joint swells and gets sore as so I cannot bear to shoot for several days. So, I grabbed my Winn-Flite release and was pleasantly surprised as that I had no swelling or any hand pain. So far so good. Started reading about form (sigh) and found I was left eye dominant while being naturally right handed at shooting. The article explained that if I was to close my left eye and sight down the arrow with my right that I could expect less parallax and better groupings as a result. Sure enough it was a much different sight picture from being left eye dominant. My groups have shrunk in half size from 15 yds. Any comments from which I may be improved even further?

Wallydog,

Sounds like you have found a way to continue shooting.  Continue experimenting, there is really no right or wrong.  Accommodations to physical difficulties is necessary and in no way impairs the opportunity to excel.  Cross dominate is not a "show stopper", just a speed bump that can be overcome.

To be more help, as ALWAYS, I recommend FORM improvements.  Video of your current shooting allows us to see where you are and possible suggestions from there.

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

ok update.

sanded the inside a smidgen, so I could use some small strips of thin leather
(a golf glove or batting glove would work great, so get one the size of your thumb with, what ever glove you choose.)

Works great I can instinctive shoot just as normal.

Love it .
