Hitting nose w/string
« on: March 11, 2014, 05:27:00 PM »
Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone out there has any insight as to why, after about 15 years of shooting I would suddenly be hitting the tip of my nose with the string. Probably more embarrassing than painful, but not much more because it does hurt a lot.

Of course now I find myself flinching on every release because, you know, why wouldn't you? Don't want that to happen again (and don't want to add to the scabs)....

I have been playing around with a few new bows of late, but this did happen with my old original (Howatt Hunter).

Is my nose getting bigger? Is this yet another hateful consequence of getting older?

Any suggestions or subtle mocking welcome.......

Rusty,

Two possible reasons and they are related.

First, not setting your head so you are looking at the target and then HOLDING it still.

Second, laying your head over onto the string hand.

Try to set your head so you are looking at the target THEN bring the string to your head; don't "go to get it!!"  OR "cuddle" up to the string or string hand.

Thank you Arne,

I think the laying the head over may have been the problem. I've been having some lower back issues lately, and I think I was compensating by bending at the neck instead of the waist when shooting at low targets. I paid attention to that this morning and it seems to have sorted it out.

Thanks again..... Cheers!

Rusty, I had to put tape on my nose it got so bad so I switched to a glove and I quit hitting my nose, but it seemed like as soon as I got the glove broke in, it was wore out, so I went back to tab and found out it was my tab on my top finger hitting my nose and not the string, so I trimmed it back as far as I could and so far, knock on wood I haven't hit my nose. Good Luck, because it sure is painful and does affect your shooting.
