Quick Release
« on: April 26, 2014, 08:08:00 PM »
Had a terrible day shooting today when I caught myself just flinging the arrow without concentrating on the spot.  To make sure I slowed down I used a tip I read on one of the TP threads and made my self count to three before the release.  It was amazing how hard to was at times to wait till 3.  A couple times it reminded me of shooting a release and compound where I would catch myself trying to punch the release.    I settled down and had a good end to my practice.  I am taking Rod Jenkins course next weekend.  I'll be curious to hear his critique.

I at times struggle with a quick release also, its hard to break the habit. A few months ago I was having a bad time with it so I went to the bale for a few hundred arrows and it's been much better since... Also I shoot gap so while I'm aiming I count the inches on the target, that not only helps me slow down but helps accuracy to.

Don't sweat it at this point.  Your weekend in Rod's clinic will put the foundation in place for great things to come.

Pretty excited about working with Rod.  Two weeks after that I will get three days at the Baltimore Bowmans to practice what I learn.

I've had the same problem for a couple of years now with target panic so for practise at home I set my wifes metronome for timing. 6  clicks then a bell goes off on the 6th. Gives me enough time to draw, anchor and hold on target, back tension and wait for the bell.

Don't sweat it.
For whatever reason a lot of us have struggled with this at times.  Proof is the books, videos and coaching to beat it.
I believe that we all need to remember that in the scope of life this isn't really a "problem".  Problems are things like illness, losing your job, etc.
take the pressure off of ourselves and remember that shooting is fun.  Enjoy the process, indulge in the relaxation of flinging a few arrows, these moments are "our time", no one telling us what to do, no other tasks to finish.  Make a bad shot?  Who cares?  Purposely let down periodically just before a shot, walk to another spot and draw again.  Snap shoot one arrow and hold longer than normal on another.  Can't do it?  Why not?  Your the one holding the bow, you can do whatever you want.  Sounds simple?  Yep, because its true.
Remove the pressure, it doesn't exist, it's not real.
Focus on the fun.

Just my opinion!

I need to one conscious of this problem too or it can over take my shooting. To slow down my release And aim longer I use the block foam target with the four white circles. I tell myself prior to drawing that I will aim at all of them and not release till I want to.this usually slows everything down and puts me back in control of the shot. Seems to help me hope it can help others. Also using the rotational draw has helped tremendously, thanks Mebow.
