Shoulder and elbow position?
« on: May 06, 2014, 09:10:00 PM »
When at full draw is it normal for the arm and should that is the drawing arm/shoulder to be slightly higher than the opposing bow arm shoulder. My elbow always seems to end up around the height of my ear at full draw and my right shoulder is just slightly higher than my left. A thing of note is my right arm is actually 1" shorter then my left due to an injury as a kid when I use to be stupid and race quads. Oh and I am right handed.

James,

As a reference, take a picture of yourself at full draw.  Draw a line from the center of pressure in the bow hand to the arrow nock and then extend it to the elbow.  Ideally, the elbow will be on that line or very close to it.

Hard to say much more with out seeing a picture or video.  But elbow up by the ear MAY be a little too high.

I shot with a very high elbow for years with my wheel bow and it carried over to my traditional shooting.  As I started mastering the rotational draw my elbow has come down considerably and I now feel much more comfortable.  Strangely this past weekend Rod Jenkins was preaching to keep the draw elbow above the noise.  When I tried that I kept torqueing the string by putting down pressure on the top of the nock.  I also have a much more difficult time rotating with the high elbow.  I'm sticking with the lower position.
