Critique Me
« on: November 04, 2014, 02:46:00 PM »
I've taken a video as I'm really interested in improving my shooting.

I recently changed my anchor and moved my hand further up my face as opposed to putting my index finger in the corner of my mouth. I think it's allowed me to stand straighter and get more rotation on my shoulder and better alignment. I seem to get much cleaner releases.

I see a collapse on the first shot but would welcome any suggestions you may have.

Thanks,
Tim

Not bad, really.  I don't know if you are trying to achieve a dynamic or dead release here.  Your hand does appear to go forward a bit on release, which might mean you are creeping a bit, losing back tension, but lots of dead release shooters appear to do that just a bit.  Try just feeling the whole weight of the bow in your back, around the scapula, at full draw, and then just relax the hand and let the string push it away.  Really, your form looks pretty decent to me, unless you are trying to use a dynamic release, in which case your hand should move back upon release as a result of proper back tension and relaxing the string hand.

Tim,

SLOW DOWN!!

I'd like to see all of your bow hand in the pictures but with what I can see:

1. Get your bow arm 90 degrees to your spine/torso.  That will stop the dropping bow arm at release.

2.  Get the string wrist bent OUT into a position of strength rather than IN which is a position of weakness and really hinders back use.

3.  As you get to full draw, you are "bouncing" your hand around on your face and a large part of that movement is forward which is another disconnect to the back.  Draw straight to your anchor, don't fish around for it.

4.  You are thinking "release now" which you accomplish by "popping" your fingers off the string.  Think instead, "pull my fingers through the string using my shoulder."

If you haven't, take a look here for ideas.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I'll work at it tonight and take another video at the end of session to see how it goes. Part of the searching on my face was due to trying a new anchor. It's still not second nature yet.
