A little help
« on: March 10, 2015, 08:29:00 AM »
Ok, I'm hoping that this will make sense. I'm slowly tuning my bow. I finally have my bare shafts hitting with my fletched shafts pretty well. By pretty well I mean they are hitting together but It's acting like the shafts are weak. I see the bare shafts coming out nock left and when I shoot the fletched shafts, they fly perfect but impact left.
I don't have the greatest release. I'm working on it and it's getting a lot better, I just get lazy and don't repeat each time.
So, I'm not sure what my question is, but I'm hoping some of you guys may have some input.
I have a 58" striker sport. I have the brace height set at 7&3/4". It's 50# at 28 and my draw is 27". I'm shooting gold tip trads with 12 grain inserts, 125 grain tips with 4" feathers and a 12 grain nock.
I do notice that I'm building some callous on the bottom of my ring finger and I do feel the pressure on that finger at times while shooting. I'm really paying attention to keeping my elbow in line with the arrow.
If you have any input, I would love to hear it.
Bob

What is the spine and length of your arrows?

bear,

At this point, I'd suggest just shooting your fletched arrows for a GOOD while.  IF the fletched arrows are flying good, AND IF you question your release consistency,  all bare shafts will do is to magnify your release problems without shedding any light on the "tune.".

Your ring finger callus, IF not centered on the pad of the finger (where it should be) but rather down around towards the cuticle, then you are MAYBE getting your string elbow too high and that along with the string angle of your relatively short bow will do that.  there is NOTHING wrong with the 58" bow especially with a draw length of 27" but there is still a fairly sharp string angle at full draw.

Save yourself some aggravation and expense and just shoot and work on your from and execution for a while.  As always,  Video??

NBK, I'm not exactly sure of the length. I just cut about an 1/8" off last night. They are 35/55's.
Moebow, no, it's not on the pad, it's on the side between the pad and nail. I think I'm keeping my elbow down but I'll have to concentrate on that more. I'll try to get some video. I've never put any pictures or video on here before so that may be a challenge.

bear,

Just take the video and post to You tube or dropbox or something like that then you can post a link here.
