Hitting left !?!?!?!? (not spine related...)
« on: July 30, 2015, 11:57:00 AM »
Well I decided I had to have a straight limbed bow ,so this past spring I built one. I also decided I would cut the shelf to center for a wider range of tuning...........lol. Bottom line.....No matter what spine I shoot (within reason ) this thing wants to hit left of where I am looking !?!?!? I tried 500's , 2018's , some 45/50 cedars with a wide variety of lenghths and weights ...... can't make it work......lol. I have included some form videos , is anyone seeing anything that would cause this nightmare...? LOL

TX,

Hard to tell much from the videos, they are WAY grainey when I watch them.  It does look like you have a high wrist on the bow grip and a left and down movement at release.  So you MIGHT look to your bow hand/grip.

Try building out your strike plate so the right side of the arrow is touching the left side of the string when viewed from the back and then start tuning. If it's really center shot you could be getting all kinds of crazy things happen.

Yes, these are better.  Your shot looks pretty good, kind of fast but not a show stopper.

Here is what I'd explore more.  In the 2 "profile" videos, watch your top bow limb at release.  See it pop and roll forward?  The entire bow should move forward and BOTH limbs should move forward together.  The bow should not "roll" like that.

I THINK you have the pressure of the bow grip too high on your hand (Up in the web between the index finger and thumb.

Try some shots where the bow presses into the base of your thumb directly in front of the radius bone of your fore arm.  Check out this video I did showing the pressure point and see if that helps.

Thanks Guys !!!! I'll do some work on the grip and we'll see if that's the fix. I usually shoot a R/D bow that has more of a high wristed grip , so Arne is prob. onto something ........Thanks again!!!

Arne, You were correct !!!! It was def. in the grip. I like to tune with big broadheads (snuffers) with attention to the grip per your rec. good grouping out to 30 yards with broadheads. I will post an updated video today. Thanks for the help !!!!!

Bow is still rocking forward (I'll work on that) but gripping the bow as discussed in your video def. pulled the shots back to center.

YES!! That looks better.  AND, YES, you have developed the bow hand movement that you will want to try to break.  As you release, you are letting that "pressure point" in your hand move back up a little causing the bow's forward roll.

Just concentrate on keeping the pressure low on the thumb (off the end of the radius bone) and the bow's "roll" will decrease or disappear.  this is where a "blank bale" routine will help you concentrate on where the pressure is in your hand -- NO TARGET -- just the feel.

You may even try blind bale for concentrating on the "FEEL" of where that pressure is.
