What arrows? (upgrading from wood to carbon)
« on: September 29, 2015, 11:39:00 PM »
Hello fellow archers!

My first post on this site and I am glad to have found this community, tradition archer can be a lonely pass time.

Here is my story, I have been self learning archery over the last year with my 60 inch 45 pound bear minute man I found in the back of my garage last year. I was able to score some 40-45 pound cedar wood arrows on amazon for a good price. They are the Bear throwback arrows made by rose city archery, 5/16 diameter, port orford cedar, 125 grain tip. They seem to be really good arrows and have help up well.

However I am hoping to upgrade to some carbon arrows.

I am currently shooting these wood arrows with a 26 1/2" draw length and a 29  inch arrow (throat of knock to end of shaft), 125 grain tip. I am looking at purchasing a 50 lb bear grizzly bow and some new carbons to go with it..

so the question is 50 pound bear grizzle bow+26 1/2" draw+ 29" arrow shaft= what carbon arrow and what tip weight(insert+point)???

thank you all in advance for your time

happy hunting!

You will probably get more responses if you post this on the PowWow forum. This one is specifically for shooting form rather than equipment.

FWIW, you will probably be good with a .500 spine carbon, but leave them full length and cut back only 1/4" at a time when tuning them to your bow and you might want to start with a heavier point, or better yet would be a selection of point weights. Carbons seem to react to a change in length much more than a change in point weight. They recover from paradox so much faster than woodies.

I'm thinking a .500 w/175 grain tips would be a good place to start.
