Thumb
« on: December 14, 2015, 08:14:00 AM »
I have been trying to fine tune a little bit and thought about a second anchor point. I have read about guys using their thumb behind the jaw or earlobe etc. I am having issues figuring this out. My thumb has a mind of its own. When I relax my hand it seems to want to stick straight up. Do you consciously "shape" it prior to drawing? Thanks guys

My recommendation is to roll the thumb over and down so the pad of the thumb hovers over the palm of the hand.  Then at full draw, the thumb fits UNDER the jaw bone with a side of face anchor.

IF the thumb is sticking up, or behind the ear/neck, that can lever your string fingers out away from your face and frankly adds to the tension in the hand and wrist for most.  Many shoot OK with the thumb up but in coaching circles, we try to avoid it.

When I get it right it works. But my thumb, due to many years of choking a hammer handle to death, has a mind if it's own. Something to work on. Thanks Arnie
