Thumb positioning (3-under tab hand)
« on: August 24, 2016, 08:58:00 AM »
What do ya'll do with your tab hand's thumb? I take a decently deep hook and I am having trouble getting my thumb to a comfortable location.

If it's curled down inside my hand, towards my palm, it seems to get in the way of my middle finger anchor point. Additionally, the positioning of my thumb down into my palm during the draw and anchor feels like it makes relaxing my hand more difficult since I am having to force my thumb down.

If I let my thumb raise up and outside of my hand it feels like it can go all over the place and I'm having trouble finding a landing spot for it. Thank you for any help!

I shoot three under with my index finger at the corner of my mouth and my thumb goes under my jawbone.  I "lock in" by putting the web of my thumb touching the back of my jawbone.

Never thought about it until I read your post ? Like Ethan, I shoot a three under fixed crawl and do exactly as he. It's not a conscious movement but just seems to be a natural consequence of my shooting style. Really can't put the thumb anywhere else.

I tuck it into the palm over the curled pinky finger. My hands aren't long enough for the base to comfortably get back to my jawbone.  For me it just seemed to be where it wanted to go and required less tension than forcing my hand more open and making it lie along the base of the index  finger(the other option if it feels more relaxed)
