Info on old arrows

Hi fellas,im pat,new on here but a Trad shooter for 40 yrs..my best sons Grandma cleans out old houses and found this box of arrows in the attic..fiberglass,bear,the say micro flight9 VB on the shaft.target tips...any info ya have would be greatly appreciated..side note..can I take out the target tips and glue in inserts or broadheads????? I'll try to put pics w this post but I can't seem too???huh

There is no VB on shafts..I'm not a good typer.and I don't have a best son...lol

Sorry, can't help you ID fiberglass arrows, but if you'll push the button that looks like a pad of paper with a pencil above your post, it will allow you to make corrections.  I don't think I've made a post yet where I haven't had to use it!

The first arrows I used with my Bear Black Bear recurve in the 1970's were Microflights.

According to the reference section in "Shooting the Stickbow", #9's are rated for 55-60 at 28"arrow length with a 5lb range difference for each inch change in arrow length: 29" 50-55, 27" 60-65.

Back when these were popular 125gr was the most common point weight and Dacron was the string type so these weight ranges would most likely be based on those parameters. Changes to string type, point weight, bow efficiency, and form would affect tuning these as with any shaft material.

I found a bit more info and it seems the recommended bow weights on the chart I saw are for target arrows and there is another chart for hunting arrows that is one step lower with 28" being 50-55. This is due to the glue in target tips being 36 grains and broadheads being 125gr or more although a #9 shaft would be a #9 on either arrow.

Mine came with converta point inserts so I didn't have to deal with removing glued in points back then. You could research how carbon inserts are removed but you may have a hard time finding the correct inserts to replace target points with.

Maybe you could cut off the end of the shaft behind the point or file it flush with the shaft and find an aluminum shaft that could be glued on as a footing with the proper size insert in it.  

If you do a search on here for footing arrows there is a chart with inside diameters of aluminum shafts I saw was recently added to a  thread that would help match to the outside fiberglass shaft size.
