New to the forum with a new (to me) Bow
« on: November 23, 2017, 01:49:00 PM »
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and need some help dating a new (to me) bow that I bought yesterday. The bow is a Bear Grizzly, 62'' amo, 45#. The bow is in great shape and a real smooth shooter. No cracks anywhere that I can see, and I took it to a local bow shop on my way home from buying it and the shop owner made an offer to buy it. The old timer I bought it from said he bought it from a Bear rep back in the early sixties that said it was a demo model or something to take around to the shops and show off (could that explain the star over the serial number?) I've also read that Bear used to remove the serial number and stamp  a star on  the bows that were reconditioned/repaired. This bow doesn't look repaired. The Bear coin looks to be brass and the bow color is a very light green.
From the info I've seen in the forums it could be a 1963 but not really sure, any ideas out there?
If I can figure out how to post pics I will...
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome!

It is my understanding the star was stamped on returned bows.  I don't know if that signifies repair or refinish.  What's to repair on a one-pieve recurve?

I have also heard it signified a blemished bow.

But I'm not a Bear collector or expert.  Try the Traditional History/Collecting sub-forum here.
